Hon. Maxime Bernier   Bernier.M@parl.gc.ca Minister of
Foreign Affairs

I am writing on behalf of the Institute of Science in
Society* in protest of the SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against
Public Participation) litigation that a Canadian government
agent has filed against public interest organisations in
Ireland and the UK, with the clear intention to silence
criticisms of a deeply flawed scientific paper he has co-
authored, which purports to show that consumers have a
preference for genetically modified sweet corn over the non-
genetically modified variety.

The relevant details are in the report enclosed, which can
also be found at:
http://www.i-sis.org.uk/BiotechCanadaSLAPPScandal.php

This cross-border deployment of  SLAPP litigation is a gross
violation of our freedom of speech in the UK and in Europe.
We respectfully request that the Canadian Government should
instruct its agent to stop this SLAPP litigation at once,
and to safeguard the standards of good science by issuing a
withdrawal of the flawed paper in question.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Mae-Wan Ho
